The painting began as a study of Roger-the-Slob playing the double bass on the foreshore of a surreal seascape featuring Old Harry Rocks. The painting didn't work too well and the opacity of oil paint allowed me to repaint the background so that Roger now appears to be playing to himself on the path in West Ham Park.

He's a solitary musician playing the music to nobody and he appears to be thoroughly enjoying it. However, there is  nothing shaking but the leaves on the trees
